Projects
From here you can view some of the projects Peter has worked on in more detail, covering all aspects of the project in one place
Eucrasia
Eucrasia is my Final Project completed in tandem with my dissertation for my Masters degree. It is a third person role-playing game with a novel health system. The key concept with this project was to draw parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic, exploring disease, isolation, and mental health in a novel and abstracted way.
England, 1665. The Great Plague sweeps the land and death awaits around every corner. In the village of Stixford, Phillip Grey (the Player) is tasked with the role of Watchman, and must tend to the salvation of the village, as well as his own. Their only link to the outside world, the Watchman must provide supplies to the villagers, uncovering their stories while balancing their needs against his own. Most crucial of his duties is to keep the villagers inside their homes, as more than plague awaits those who stray too far from home.
VR Winter Wonderland
This project was completed for my Digital Studio Practice module for my Masters Degree. It is a VR metaverse based around the annual Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, with the prototype serving as a proof of concept for one of the activities the player would take part in within the metaverse.
During the COVID-19 pandemic Hyde Park Winter Wonderland was closed for business to help prevent the spread of the disease. This project explored how the use of VR could enable people to enjoy a taste of the experience while confined to their homes, and acts as a useful exploration into the implementation of a themed metaverse.
Viu
Created for my User Experience Design module for my Masters Degree. Viu is a proof of concept for a language learning app utilising heavy gamification to increase learning effectiveness and user engagement.
Existing digital language learning solutions employ elements of gamification to increase the rate of learning and the engagement of their users. These tools still rely on many traditional learning techniques such as translation which could be less effective than more immersive techniques. Viu aims to create a digital environment where the Player can be truly immersed in their target language, learning in the same way we do our very first language as children. This is not only more engaging and fun, but could be a faster way to obtain a deeper understanding of the target language.
The Fall of Erecura
The Fall of Erecura is a Fantasy RPG designed for my Game Design module for my Masters degree. This module focussed more on game design as opposed to implementation, and so the prototype is limited in scope to give a feel for the game world map the Player would navigate.
Vibrant cultures and twisted monstrosities rub shoulders amongst the ruins of the ancients on the world of Erecura. An age of trade, conflict, and competition has seen kingdoms rise and fall under their shadow. The secrets held within have inspired great acts of valour, and unimaginable cruelty, from those brave enough to venture within. As an adventurer, you have seen in these ruins marvels and horrors that would baffle generations of scientists and priests, however your last expedition delved deeper than ever before, and has awoken a power that threatens the very existence of your world.
Anne - United Against Dementia
This project was developed for my Masters degree for my Media Specialist Practice module focusing on specialist game design application, specifically games as tools for education or as simulations. It uses a first person ‘walking simulator’ to demonstrate some of the less well known effects of dementia, as well as providing useful facts, in an attempt to raise awareness and educate the player about dementia and the difficulties face by those who live with it.
Anne lives alone in a normal house on a normal street in a normal town. Her life, however, has become anything but normal. Anne lives with dementia, making the things she once took for granted an uphill struggle. She must overcome these obstacles and face the day ahead of her, showing the Player that living with dementia is hard, but not insurmountable. Her story is like millions of others around the world, millions who, with the right help and support, could maintain a high quality of life well into the progression of their disease.
