Game Design

Here I highlight some of the tools and techniques I use to shape my game design work. To see examples of my work, please select from the projects at the bottom of this page.

Research

My game design process always start with research. I have a professional background as a researcher in the automotive industry, and the lessons I learnt from this experience have remained an important part of my design philosophy. Be it background research into a setting, topic, or theme, or market research and competitor analysis, I find that building designs from a solid research foundation is always the right move.

Documentation

My role as a researcher required me to effectively communicate my findings to design teams and clients, and so I know how important documentation is to the design process. Between my game design degree and professional background, I am more than capable of producing exacting design documentation to support the work of the team.

Software

I use a variety of software in my game design process, each fulfilling an important part of the workflow. From documentation software such as word and excel for design documentation and spreadsheet management, collaborative tools such as Miro to track the design process as a part of a team, to game dev tools like Unreal, Unity, and Maya build game worlds and assets, I have tried to keep my toolset broad to aid in any stage of development.

Coding

I understand the fundamentals of C#, as well as visual scripting like Blueprints, having written codes for all of my prototypes. Using this knowledge I have developed player navigation, health, and interaction systems, dialogue systems, animator controllers, and even basic enemy AI. I am constantly striving to improve my ability in this field.

Collaboration

Perhaps most importantly of all, I have learnt on the job how to collaborate with the rest of the team as an automotive designer. I learnt the value of a diverse team in creating diverse and interesting designs working internationally, and experienced first hand the importance of effective communication between departments and individuals in creating a unified direction.
