Viu - Game Design

Game design elements for Viu are highlighted on this page. Feel free to look through the design proposal below to get a feel for this project and its design aims. The prototype, and the game systems built for it, are outlined in subsequent videos, with supporting documentation following them.

Mid-Fi Game Play

This video illustrates the kind of levels the player might experience earlier in the prototype, as well as the navigation menu’s through which they can select their target language or explore the levels they have available to them. This prototype was developed in Adobe XD and illustrates a broader view of the final product.

High-Fi Level

Here we can see the level build for this project in action. In the final product, the player would be able to interact with the various places and objects in the scene in order to complete instructions given to them in their target language. If the player interacts with one of the shops on the level, they would enter the shop to complete tasks similar to those in the Mid-Fi prototype above. This prototype was developed in Unity using third party assets, as well as custom written scrips to control the player character, and illustrates how levels might actually look in the final product without actual interactivity.

Research

Primary and secondary research was conducted to produce a research informed design for this project. Competitor analysis was used to get a grasp of the existing market for this game, as well as gap which could be exploited. Interviews followed by thematic analysis were conducted to understand the target audience, and to identify which gaps in the market were most in need of filling. User Personas were generated from these interviews to pride an easy point of reference when building the design.
